JBA Seed Potatoes - Maris Bard - First Early

The Maris Bard variety of seed potato is well known for producing evenly sized potatoes very early in the season, making them a great choice for early salad use, as well as for boiling and baking purposes.

With a white skin and flesh, these oval-shaped potatoes are high yielding and have a good resistance against common scab. If planted in March, this variety can be harvested as early as June or July.

Key Information:

  • Oval shape with white skin and flesh
  • Best suited to boiling and early salad use
  • Produces high yielding crops, with good resistance against common scab

Advice & Tips:

  • Soon after purchasing, empty the seed potatoes into a shallow box, such as an egg box, and store them in a cool area protected from frost.
  • Two weeks before planting out, move the seed potatoes to a light area so that they can produce a strong, thick sprout - make sure they are rose eye upwards. When exposed to light, the potatoes will turn green - this is normal.
  • When planted into the ground, each potato should be approximately 25cm from the next, with rows spaced approximately 60cm apart. The potatoes should be approximately 15cm into the ground.

Useful Information:

When to sow: March - April
When to Harvest: June - July
Culinary Use: Excellent for Boiling, Baking and Salads, but can also be used for Roasting, Chipping and Mashing
