Taylors Bulbs Foremost Seed Potatoes - Winter Variety

Grow your own Foremost variety potatoes in time for Christmas with this pack of ten seed potatoes. With a white-skinned oval shape and white waxy flesh, the resulting potatoes are flavoursome and can be boiled, baked or used in salads.

This variety can be planted either into containers or directly into the ground, so anybody can grow their own potatoes regardless of garden size. Sowing in the autumn months will allow enough time for the tubers to grow and provide a good supply by December.

Advice & Tips on How to Grow:

• To plant into open ground, dig over the area and remove any weeds, adding a general fertiliser and well-rotted compost if available. The tubers should be planted 10-13cm deep and 20-23cm apart in a row - each row should be approximately 50cm apart.
• Potatoes should be kept well-watered; avoid blight by keeping the leaves dry. Carefully draw earth up against the side of the plants once they reach 10cm in height, to encourage additional potatoes to grow and to shield the tubers from light.
• To grow in containers or potato bags, place approximately 10cm of dampened multi-purpose compost into the base and evenly space three tubers on top. Cover with another 10cm of compost and water sparingly to start with, monitoring carefully to ensure that the compost is moist but not waterlogged. Once plants reach 10cm in height, add more compost and repeat again once plants grow through this too. Continue with this until the container is full.
• Potatoes should be ready approximately 12 weeks after planting, or after flowering. Harvest as required - the remainder can be left in the soil for up to a month.
• In sheltered gardens with a light soil, adding extra earth over the rows of potatoes and covering with straw will protect from frost, enabling you to store the potatoes in the ground until Christmas. In cold areas, or where soil is wetter and heavier, potatoes should be lifted by the end of October.
