Taylors Bulbs - Ginger Zingiber Officianale

Ginger is a popular spice, with its warm flavour used for many medicinal and culinary purposes all around the world. This pack from Taylors Bulbs allows you to grow your own ginger at home, ready to harvest in as little as four months - a better tasting ginger can be harvested if it is left in the ground for longer, for up to ten months after planting.

Once shoots develop, ginger plants can be planted out into sunny positions in your garden; if you have a smaller outdoor space, ginger can also be grown in pots and containers, making it suitable for any 'grow your own' gardener.

Key Information:

  • Popular spice for medicinal and culinary purposes
  • Can be grown in the greenhouse, in beds or in containers

Advice & Tips:

  • Ginger grows best in warm environments, so a greenhouse or conservatory is ideal.
  • The root can be planted whole into well-drained soil, or cut into pieces - if cutting into pieces, ensure each piece has two to three 'eyes'.
  • Plant into a seed tray, covering with 2cm of compost and watering well.
  • Once roots and shoots develop after a few weeks, plant in a sunny spot in the garden or into a container. Plants should be approximately 45cm apart.
  • After planting, keep the soil damp but don't over-water.
  • Harvest can take place after four months by digging up the root, but the taste is best if harvested eight to ten months after planting instead.

Useful Information:
