A good all-rounder potato with a deep red skin and yellow flesh, this set of ten seed potatoes will enable you to grow your own Red Duke of York potatoes in your garden.

This variety is the perfect choice for roast potatoes as they keep their shape when boiled and won't disintegrate; they also work well when baked or in salads. Ready to sow between July and September - with harvesting possible from November onwards - Red Duke of York seed potatoes can be grown directly into the ground or into containers depending on your outdoor space.

• This variety should be planted as soon as possible after purchase, and protected from frost during the growing process

Advice & Tips on How to Grow:

• To plant into open ground, dig over the area and remove any weeds, adding a general fertiliser and well-rotted compost if available. The tubers should be planted 10-13cm deep and 20-23cm apart in a row - each row should be approximately 50cm apart.
• Potatoes should be kept well-watered; avoid blight by keeping the leaves dry. Carefully draw earth up against the side of the plants once they reach 10cm in height, to encourage additional potatoes to grow and to shield the tubers from light.
• To grow in containers or potato bags, place approximately 10cm of dampened multi-purpose compost into the base and evenly space three tubers on top. Cover with another 10cm of compost and water sparingly to start with, monitoring carefully to ensure that the compost is moist but not waterlogged. Once plants reach 10cm in height, add more compost and repeat again once plants grow through this too. Continue with this until the container is full.
• Potatoes should be ready approximately 12 weeks after planting, or after flowering. Harvest as required - the remainder can be left in the soil for up to a month.
• In sheltered gardens with a light soil, adding extra earth over the rows of potatoes and covering with straw will protect from frost, enabling you to store the potatoes in the ground until Christmas. In cold areas, or where soil is wetter and heavier, potatoes should be lifted by the end of October.
